ACFE Serbia at the 13th Annual Conference of the Institute of Internal Auditors of Serbia

At the 13th Annual Conference of the Institute of Internal Auditors of Serbia (UIRS), held on October 9–10, 2025, in Kopaonik, ACFE Serbia had the honor to participate as a partner organization within the panel dedicated to digital transformation and new regulatory challenges.

Representing the Association, Sanja Ugrčić Pavlović, CFE, Vice President of ACFE Serbia, delivered a presentation titled:
“Internal Audit in Digital Industries – Between Regulatory Uncertainty and Technological Transformation.”

The presentation opened a discussion on key issues faced by auditors and compliance professionals in the digital era:
• How can existing control frameworks be applied to systems powered by artificial intelligence, blockchain, and cloud technologies?
• How do we distinguish between technological risk and ethical risk?
• Where does regulation end, and professional judgment begin?

Particular focus was placed on the challenges of implementing emerging European regulations such as AI Act, MiCA, and DORA, which introduce new compliance standards for digital and financial industries.
In this environment, the internal auditor is no longer just a compliance guardian but a strategic advisor who understands technology, manages risk, and strengthens trust in complex systems.

Sanja Ugrčić Pavlović emphasized that the auditor’s role in the digital age is inseparable from ethics, integrity, and accountability in interpreting data and algorithms:

“Regulation is still trying to keep up with the speed of technological change. That is why professional judgment, ethical compass, and continuous education remain the key tools of every auditor of the future.”

The conference gathered numerous experts in internal audit, IT risk, compliance, and corporate governance, featuring a rich program of presentations and discussions on trends shaping today’s business environment.

ACFE Serbia continues to actively promote integrity, transparency, and fraud prevention through cooperation with national and international institutions.
